LONDON — Banksy, perhaps the world’s most famous graffiti artist, is gaining in Bond Street credibility.
Next month, Sotheby’s is set to open an exhibition of about 40 works attributed to the maverick spray-painter at its S|2 private sales gallery in Mayfair. The retrospective, curated by Banksy’s former dealer, Steve Lazarides, will be the first major London show devoted to the artist since 2009. All the works will have the artist’s certificates of authenticity and no street pieces will be included, according to a consultant involved in the event, who asked not to be named because Sotheby’s had not officially announced the show at the time of reporting.
