Christie's, Sotheby's anticipate huge auction haul

Art collectors can't be blamed if they feel as though they're experiencing déjà vu as a stable of noted artists' works comes up for sale, again. Christie's Post-War and Contemporary Art Evening Auction, starting May 6, features a Francis Bacon triptych with an estimated price of $80 million. Last fall, a Bacon triptych—also with an estimated price of about $80 million—went for $142.4 million, the most expensive artwork ever sold at auction.
